A family-run tool for grassroots sports streams
ScoreLayer is a small, family-run business. We started it in 2026 to make one thing affordable and easy: putting a clean, broadcast-style scoreboard on a grassroots sports stream. Most local streams were video only, with no graphics at all — so family members who couldn't make it to the game had no way to follow the score, the clock, or what was happening on the field.
Why we built it
When we went looking for a way to add live scores and game info to our own streams, every option fell into one of two camps. Some were cumbersome and manual — juggling separate graphics software, editing text by hand between plays, or wiring up spreadsheets and browser hacks that broke the moment the game got busy. The rest were built for professional broadcasters, with pricing to match. Nothing was made for a volunteer running a single camera at a local match on a Saturday morning, on a tight budget.
So we built the thing we wanted: a scoreboard overlay you add to OBS, Streamlabs, or vMix as a browser source in a couple of minutes, then control live from your phone or laptop while the game runs. We refined it over our first couple of seasons — and realized it could help other clubs too.
Who it's for
Grassroots clubs, schools and colleges, rec leagues, and the volunteers and semi-pro streamers who cover them. If you're putting a local game online and want it to look like it belongs there, that's exactly who we make ScoreLayer for — and it's the kind of stream we run ourselves. Our own matchday kit is an iPhone for the camera, a basic laptop for the control panel, and ScoreLayer for the scorebug. To keep costs down we run the free, open-source OBS, but since ScoreLayer is just a browser overlay it works with vMix, YoloBox, and any streaming setup that supports a browser source.
Who we are
We're a family, not a venture-backed company — founded and run by Joachim, helped by his sons, and kept deliberately small so we can stay close to the people who use it. That also means when you email us, you're talking to the people who build ScoreLayer, not a support queue.
